Defence relations between Russia and India
Russia and India started their military technical cooperation in 1960. Thanks to mutually advantageous partner relations the Indian Army has renewed its arsenal by 70 per cent with Soviet/Russian weapons, and Russia’s defence exports to India for all years of cooperation have exceeded the total amount of 54 billion US dollars. Just in the last year India took delivery of Russian weapons and military equipment worth 3.7 billion US dollars.
The strategic partnership of our countries has been consolidating during many decades, and new forms and areas of the mutually beneficial cooperation are explored.
In particular, it is for half a century now, exactly since 1963, that Soviet/Russian defence technologies have been transferred to India. Our country has rendered technical assistance to India in building five major plants for the manufacture of aircraft and aero-engines and 12 plants for the manufacture of armoured vehicles, armaments and ammunition.
