Significance of military communication systems
As Indian troops are deployed in forward bases along borders with China and Pakistan, a robust military communication is critical component for ensuring fast and secure data transmission back to their respective commands.
However, in the recent past India has invested heavily in acquiring modern combat platforms, but less focus has been given on developing strong communication system for Indian military. While some modern radio sets have been introduced into Indian military forces in recent years, networked communication, which forms the backbone of an effective command and control system, needs substantial upgradation.
A flexible threat reaction demands very mobile units which may be spread over a large geographical area. If the forces are to operate under a centralized management and at the same time retain their mobility, heavy demands are put on the communication system. These demands will be in the form of security, survivability, and protection against electronic warfare.
