Indian Army to induct more Weapons Locating Radar
Though Bharat Electronics Ltd in association with DRDO has produced an indigenous Weapons Locating Radar, the Indian Army wants to float a global tender for further acquisition of 29 more WLRs and BEL has been advised to participate in the RFP.
In fact the BEL chief had already expressed the confidence, last April, that his company will win the contract. The tender documents are ready to be released as the top Indian Army sources had confirmed last year in April that the RFP was ready, which will be worth US$ 285 million. In fact work on this tender is continuing since the first quarter of last year.
In view of the latest policy of the Indian Ministry of Defence to give preference to Indian developed and manufactured systems, declared in the wake of series of scams in defence acquisition, it would be interesting to watch, if the MoD goes ahead with the decision to issue the RFP, which is under consideration since April, 2012.
BEL is already supplying 28 WLRs ordered
